Digital Publishing – here’s how it works

Our Software as a service Platform operates according to a modular app design and provides you with everything you need to achieve success in the world of mobile applications: a time- and cost-effective entry, intuitive handling and ongoing updates. The editorial section and the App Builder transform your PDF files into a multimedia reading experience. Your tailor-made app contains all components needed to support your sales, marketing and controlling.

Native App

Our app solution is compatible with all standard mobile operating systems – iOS, Android and Amazon Fire OS, and is available in all the stores. This means that your publications are accessible on all platforms. The various functions available within the app, including Text Mode, Social Sharing, Google maps and a Text to Speech function, offer your readers maximum reading comfort. Your readers can access current editions, as well as entire archives, at anytime via the app.


The Browserclient guarantees optimal online presentation of your digital publications without downloading them. You can apply your own design to the Browserclient and embed the Browserclient in your website using a link or iFrame.


Your digital editions and apps appear directly on your computer via our Workbench. The editorial section offers everything you need to enhance your publications, to manage your subscriptions and to configure payment methods. Use the App Builder to determine the applications and functions offered by your app and to set the individual design of your app.


Provide existing subscribers of print publications with a code in order to grant them access to your range of digital products. Determine and set the duration of the subscription period yourself. You decide whether distribution is achieved via the app stores, or via alternative, independent sales channels. Alternatively, a code might be used to limit the readership which has access to content. You might for example, make certain content available to a given group of employees, business customers or premium clients.

Promotion manager

Integrate space for advertising banners and advertising campaigns directly into the app and Browser Client. Use individual adverts to make readers aware of your offers, products and services, or draw their attention to special editions, upcoming publications and categories. The possibility of inserting direct links to subscription and app stores, to websites or other, similar resources, provides additional options for upselling.


Highlight are advertising banner which feature a particularly eye-catching image. You can use Highlights to attract the app user’s attention to a title, to topics and categories which you particularly want to emphasise. Use our automatic Highlights design for magazine covers or simply design your own Highlights yourself. You define how many Highlights are visible on a smartphone or tablet, and which titles are shown. If for example, you publish multiple titles in your kiosk app (mixed kiosk), you can use Highlights to simultaneously market both titles in parallel. Our Highlights can also be used as navigation aids within the app.

Push notifications

Use Push Notifications to inform readers about newly published editions or alert them to title stories and special editions. Simply send your readers a short message via the app and thereby increase the visibility and use rate of your app.

Reporting Basic & Pro

Access statistics pertaining to the number of downloads, purchases and number of app-users in the Workbench. Reporting Pro also provides additional usage data to help you optimise your digital products. You might for example, benefit from an overview of the top most frequently viewed pages in your publications, a measure of a publications’ circulation (measure by the German Audit Bureau of Circulation, IVW), or data regarding the time a reader spends viewing content.

Multi categories

The function Multi categories enables your publications and content to be sorted according to title, topic, language, currency and further categories which you can determine yourself. You thereby provide your readers with a user-friendly navigation and orientation system which leads them through your publications. And in turn, your readers more quickly discover content which interests them.

Text to speech

With our Text to speech function you can add audio to your app – your texts will be read aloud within the app itself. By activating Text Mode, the texts in your publications are automatically read out, and will be heard directly via the user’s device.

Location based reading

This feature enables you to offer certain content to readers in a particular location, as determined by you. Certain locations, such as exhibitions, stations or shopping centres become reading hotspots for your publications. Thanks to GPS technology, you can make your magazine available in an activated location directly via the app and so reach your reader in new locations.

Article publishing

ReadMatrix perfectly complements the PressMatrix app. Use our Publishing-Manager-Software, to create individual pieces of content such as articles, blog posts or news updates, and publish these across various media directly in your app and on social media channels, for example on Facebook and Twitter. The pieces of content will be automatically adapted to the particular requirements of each publication platform. You thereby increase the use of the app and enhance your digital presence.

The server-side search function enables your readers to browse through current and archived editions. If the reader enters a certain search term, the results will not only show where it is used in purchased articles but also where it appears in further publications throughout the entire range of content. Without any extra expenditure, archived editions can therefore serve to generate additional turnover.

Service & Help

Our service includes a free of charge test edition, e-mail support and at least one online training session. In addition, PressMatrix will install up to two technical service updates and you will receive one additional app-update to manage yourself. As part of our extended service, we also guarantee preferential telephone support and additional app updates.
